*Note, per state law an ADU is allowed on ANY property where a residence is permitted.

Minimum Lot Size

None

Min/Max ADU Size

Detached: Maximum of 850 sf for a studio or one-bedroom ADU. Maximum of 1,000 sf for an ADU with more than one bedroom.

Attached: Maximum of 50 percent of the existing living area.

ADU Building Height

16 feet for detached ADUs.

Setbacks
  • 4 feet rear and side yards.
  • No additional setback if converted from an existing accessory structure.
Parking Requirements

None

Owner Occupancy

The property owner of a single-family residence with a JADU must reside in one of the units.

Other requirements
  • Design must be compatible with the primary dwelling and minimize view impacts to neighboring properties
  • Window and door openings must be designed to maximize privacy
Process

Approved through building permit and reviewed concurrently by the Planning Department.
