Accessory Dwelling Unit Housing Element Recommendations

for the Napa Sonoma Collaborative

These guidelines are designed to help our local cities and counties improve their processes, public education, and policies to continue to advance the development of accessory dwelling units and junior accessory dwelling units. Check out the multiple appendices for a number of additional resources and information!

The goal of this Menu of Incentives for Affordable ADUs is to provide concrete ideas for local jurisdictions regarding how they can invest in the development of affordable ADUs in order to advance equity and Affirmatively Further Fair Housing. Some jurisdictions may be overwhelmed by the potential cost of investing in ADU development, and this menu of options illustrates a wide range of investments jurisdictions can make – some without having a large impact on budget, staff time or other resources.
